Secret Postcard Show at The Old Lock Up Gallery, Cromford
Above are my two entries for this year's Secret Postcard Show.
They are inspired by the natural lines formed by branches and leaves. They are abstract botanicals in mixed media on 12x17.5cm fine art paper (acrylics, oil pastels, and pencils).
I enjoyed making them very much and I’m glad to be supporting an independent gallery to keep open.
About the Gallery
The gallery opened in 2017 and hosted exhibitions and workshops since. The Secret Postcard Show is in its 8th year.
All profits from the sale of the postcards will go directly towards the galleries running costs, especially the rental cost of the building. New for this year is that the cost will go towards artist residency at the gallery. Postcards are sold at £20 each.
“The Old Lock Up Gallery is situated on the edge of The Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, in the historic village of Cromford Derbyshire the very birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The gallery can be found on the second floor of a beautiful 18th-century cottage which became the village jail in the 1780’s, the cells are still in situ on the ground floor of the building. One of the first cottages to be built in Cromford - originally it would have been surrounded by fields.
The Old Lock Up Gallery - curated and managed by Rachael Pinks - opened in July 2017, prior to this the space was Rachael’s art studio from 2011'“
- Rachael Pinks owner.
I painted four pieces, and I was so pleased with how they turned out that I couldn’t resist keeping two for myself.
Below are my submissions from last year, 2023.
Four abstract mini landscapes were created using a variety of mixed media techniques on 12.5x17cm fine art paper.
