A Year In The Life Of My Artwork
My Best Nine on Instagram 2019
At the end of the year, I like to look back and reflect on the past year of art-making. Checking out my best nine photos on Instagram helps. My most popular on Instagram in 2019 is a mixture of abstracts landscapes from #the100dayproject and people.
Painting people is a new theme this year and influenced by my past career in children’s book illustration, storytelling and psychology. I can't wait to develop this more in 2020.
This is year has been a year of trying new things:
Attended workshops with Fiona Wilson, Dizzy Inks to learn more about Risograph printing and an abstract florals workshop with Laura Gee.
Visited exhibitions galore! I especially was inspired by the Japanese Manga exhibition at the VA Museum in London.
Looked at ways to eco-friendly my creative practise with Yupo paper and Riso Printing.
I opened my online shop, adding new artworks as I go along.
Embraced writing and I'm now published as contributing-author in ‘Inside Creativity Coaching’ edited by Eric Maisel.
My year in Colour
An overview of my most used colours. Lots of mid colours with cool tones in teals, blues and pinks. Not much contrast which I might work on next year.
My most popular artwork of 2019 on Instagram
This really surprised me! I nearly didn't post this image as I thought it was quite ugly and I posted it a time when the algorithms say not to post, ha! what do algorithms know (^_^).
This work was created at a Risograph printing workshop I attended and a test piece for a book project I am working on. Riso uses soy-based inks making it more eco-friendly than standard printing and has a limited colour palette.
I had been uncertain about how I was going to reproduce the final book but after the response to the Riso techniques, my mind is made up for it to be completely Riso printed. It is a big learning curve for me after years of creating illustrations for traditional print methods.
My Favourite of the year
I love this one. It is on Yupo paper which is a synthetic man-made material which is completely recyclable and can be reused time and again. I like the delicateness of working on Yupo paper which is tricky and needs a very gentle hand. The translucent paper is particularly deliciously creamy to work on.
What's next?
2020 is a year of two more books on creativity I have contributed to being released and published.
I am looking forward to adding more artwork to my online shop and increasing my artmaking with more painting and bookmaking.
Completing and self-publishing my mini book project as well as my Creative Growth Planner.
My mini e-course on Goal Mapping for Creative Success will go live and I am passionate about coaching more creatives to be bolder and braver in their creative choices.
I am so excited for 2020, I hope you are too.
